OVERVIEW

Orange River Tankers originally started as a family business in 1981, set up by WHC Barnard to serve the agricultural industry in the Orange River region. The growth of the wine industry in this region demanded an increase in the transportation of bulk wines to clients in the bigger centres, creating the opportunity for Barnard to expand the company’s logistics operations.

Since 1981 the company grew from 10 full-time employees and 6 trucks with food grade tankers, to a fleet of 26 trucks during 2005, followed by an acquisition with Orange River Cellars. Nearly 15 years after the completion of the acquisition Orange River Tankers continued to grow, now housing over 120 full-time employees and 70 vehicles. We have nearly four decades of experience and specialize in the transportation of bulk wines and related food grade products with depots in Black Heath, Cape Town, Heidelberg, Gauteng and the head office in Upington.

With strategically placed depots, we are able to service most routes within South African Borders and selected routes within the Southern African Region.

The depots at Orange River Tankers are equipped with in-house workshops and food grade washbay facilities to further ensure our commitment to quality and availability of the highest standard equipment.

The company has a SABS accredited ISO 22000 quality management system and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point System (HACCAP), which endorse our commitment to an unsurpassed quality record.  HACCAP forms part of the Food Safety Standard ISO 22000 and is a system to identify and implement preventative measures to ensure compliance to Food Safety Standards.  This accreditation guarantees quality in the procedure of tanker cleanliness to food grade quality and ensures less down time on equipment.
