ORT is committed to addressing the transformation process and incorporates the principles of broad based black economic empowerment.

Policies and practices that address ownership, management control, skills development, enterprise and supplier development and socio-economic development, are in place to ensure compliance with the B-BBEE codes of good practice.

In 2009 we started an owner driver business, Khara Hais Transport (Pty) Ltd to accommodate truck drivers with long service nearing retirement to extend work life with 70% equity in the company.  The sustainability of this enterprise development business model is ensured through continual skill and business practise guidance by our management and support staff.

We entered into an ownership transaction during 2016 when 25,5% of the shares were sold to Gariep Development NCP. The sole objective of this Non-Profit Company will be the empowerment of the youths related to employees through bursaries for university studies. Orange River Tankers is also actively involved in YES (Youth Employment Service), a business-led collaboration with government, labour and civil society to create one million first-time work experiences, over three years, for South Africa’s unemployed black youth.

We are a Level 3, 110 % contributor in terms of the BEE Code of conduct, as well as a VAS (Value Adding Supplier) company. The recognized contribution towards preferential procurement will be R1.10 (Level 3) x 1.25 (Value Adding Supplier) = R1.375 for every rand spend on transport, a 37,5% recognition “bonus”
